Description: The dune safari rested at a campsite where we had an ample barbecue, drove dune buggies and were entertained with belly dancing. An emirati lady offered henna tattooing for the women. Guinea fowl roamed the camp. Silly birds they are too. |

Description: Dune driving was the most exciting thing I managed to do in Dubai. Except that I wasn't driving myself. We were picked up from our hotels and taken in convoy to the site west of the Dubai-Al Ain road. This was a stop to admire the view - dunes. |

Description: Downtown Dubai from the roof of my hotel - the Imperial Suites. The guests were mostly Asian, en route from UK to India and back again, or businessmen. Dubai always seems to be hazy. Sand in the air. |

Description: Downtown Dubai by night from the roof of my hotel. The building with the flashing blue light is the Crowne Plaza Dubai. A bit more upmarket than mine. As for the famous Burj Dubai Hotel, it costs £50 just to enter the doors. Decided not to go. |
